So, in this project i did the interactive part. I was tracking the hand of the participant with a kinect sensor, and by doing so he would trigger sound and visuals. The location of the triggers matched the physical location of some plants,so by putting this together it gave the sensation of the plants are singing.
Having to create a human-machine interface that involved body movement was a nice challenge. It was about finding the perfect balance of visual elements for a person to understand how to interact and have a good experience. On average this part was about 6-7 minutes, so the person that was sitting there had to learn how to use the system in 1 maybe 2 minutes in order for it to have time for a proper immersion. The interactive plants also had an aura around them, and the position of both hands was marked with 2 glowing balls.
For the experience to be even smoother, text was mapped in one of the shelves. The rest of the visual content projected was rendered live, generative, and it was made using particles and feedback loops to resemble the energy of the plant.
